Hello, my name is Katie, I moved to New Zealand from Ireland where I was a high school teacher and special educational needs caregiver in children’s services. (I am confident to learn and adapt to new ‘abilities/needs. I have been so lucky to have met the most amazing children and families back home). I have also provided relief for a Montessori at home gaining experience of caring and supporting under 5s in an educational setting/environment in addition to childminding. I have joined this app while I am waiting for my teaching council registration to be accepted. I have been childminding since I was 12 years old for neighbours and began volunteering with special ed at 17. I have been minding children or working with children with needs since. I can cook and enjoy cooking and baking with smallies when minding. I am also happy to start dinner or follow instructions to learn something new. I have lots of energy and love the outdoors so am happy to visit parks, playgrounds, get in walks etc while minding! I used to teach Irish Dancing which I am willing to share if you have anyone interested in dance and love promoting creative play/arts & crafts. I have grown up on a farm so pets and fur babies aren’t an issue!
I have been working with a local community based organisation called CoAction in West Cork where I have undergone training in - MAPA (Nonviolent Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training) - Managing feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing in People with an intellectual Dis. - Hand Hygiene - Child Protection - First Aid
I have been childminding since I was 12 years old and still babysit for friends or family but I mainly work with children with intellectual and physical disabilities outside of my teaching hours in Ireland. With my teaching job I worked with adolescents with visual impairments.
As a high school art teacher I have given grinds in Art History in line with the Irish Education System. I have worked in Primary Schools as a SET and English as a Second Language Teacher. As an SET teacher I helped students with their English and reading skills and maths. In my high school job I taught children 1:1 (mainly visually impaired) typing skills.
